For almost seven years the new Alhambra, near to République, has been attracting an audience into all kinds of music. This former cinema-theatre, built in 1911 in a huge art deco building, has since been demolished and rebuilt inside a completely sound-proofed concrete and steel shell on springs. The only relic of its past is the monumental staircase leading up to the balcony. Its name is taken from the legendary 1920s music hall which was just a few metres away. The modern L’Alhambra now programmes the best in a wide variety of today’s scenes (hip hop, rock, jazz, French popular music, World Music). With a capacity of between 600 and 800 either sitting or standing spectators, this venue is the perfect size for programming major artists from around the world, in particular those who perform in the festival Au fil des voix which is held here every winter during the month of February.
