With around 1000 seats, the Salle Pleyel is among the largest auditoria with an international reputation devoted to classical music. Opened in 1927 by the famous piano manufacturer Pleyel, it benefited from major renovation in 2006 which restored the superb lines of this Art Deco building to their full elegance and heightened the acoustic comfort. Now run by the Cité de la Musique, the Salle Pleyel hosts leading symphony ensembles and great concert artists as well as concerts of world music, singing and jazz. Keith Jarrett, who appreciates acoustics, gives a much awaited recital nearly every year. Other pianists, such as Brad Mehldau and Ahmad Jamal, have recently been acclaimed here. The peerless John Zorn revealed the various dimensions of his creativity here. European jazz is also celebrated. On the periphery of the concerts, "Le Bouche à Oreille" café-restaurant welcomes spectators both before and after concerts.
