No need for Cannes: in Paris in July, the cinema is guest of honour. For ten days, numerous places in the capital will be celebrating the 7th art.
The festival starts on 3rd July in the Forum des Images with the Nuit du Cinéma (Night of the Cinema). Films from all genres will be screened until dawn. After which, you are invited by the sector’s professionals to take part in master classes, conferences about their work and your passion, and surprising activities such as Ciné-randos (cinema trails) and a cinema flea market, held on 10th July in the east of Paris.
However, the Paris Cinéma Festival is also an international competition awarding prizes to the best films of 2010. Jane Fonda is an expected guest of honour; the American star, whose work has won her so many awards, and particularly her part in the unforgettable They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, will attend the international competition. She will be accompanied by the American film director and playwright Eugène Green.
And this year Japan is also honoured! You can discover the eclectic and exotic Japanese cinema through forty films and a retrospective dedicated to the great master Akira Kurosawa, the Emperor of Japanese cinema. The master of Japanese erotic cinema, Koji Wakamatsu, will also be attending. Finally, on 13th July, rendezvous at the Centquatre, in the north-east of Paris, for a Cinema-Karaoke and of course, the finale - a party which continues until dawn...on the morning of the Fête Nationale.
