Beneath court dress, a real political language…
This event is over. To find another one in Paris Île-de-France, see the datebook. From 31 March To 28 June 2009
Château de Versailles
This exhibition traces the history of court dress in Europe and highlights the major influence of France in this area in the middle of the 17th century to the beginning of the 19th century. Court dress was the expression of a real political language, the main purpose of which was to translate the hierarchy of power in a visual way.
For the first time, more than 200 works (costumes, jewels and iconography, on loan in particular from the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Palazzo Pitti in Florence and from the Dresden royal collections, etc.) relating to prestigious European monarchies, are assembled for an exhibition which will be on show only at Versailles.
