Musée Jacquemart-André
The collection of the German Baron Bernard von Lindenau (1779-1854), an eminent political figure, art lover and philanthropist, comprises masterpieces of Primitive Italian art.
The exhibition presents around 50 of these works, all produced by the greatest masters of the Italian Pre-Renaissance and Early Renaissance, from Guido da Siena to Liberale di Verona. It provides a contrast between the two major schools: that of Sienna with Lippo Memmi, Pietro Lorenzetti and Sano di Pietro, and that of Florence with Fra Angelico, Lorenzo Monaco, Masaccio and Filippo Lippi.
The arrangement of the exhibition highlights the series of principal aesthetic trends: the Greek style and the Byzantine influence on the one hand and the emergence of the modern style and the development of the international Gothic style on the other…
