From 29 April To 22 November 2009
Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine

What will 21st-century Paris look like? The exhibition "Le Grand Pari(s)" provides you with the opportunity to discover the 10 projects of the Greater Paris of the future as imagined by the leading architects of our period: Jean Nouvel (architect behind the Musée du Quai Branly), Christian Portzamparc (architect behind the Cité de la Musique), Richard Rogers (joint designer with Renzo Piano of the Pompidou Centre), etc.

This exhibition, being displayed in the very centre of the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine’s collection of casts, presents 10 structures, each 16m², giving each team of architects free reign to explore their ideas in the form of models, videos, texts, etc. The 10 projects presented here are based around the key themes of the environment, economic development, social balance and mobility.
Antoine Grumbach, for instance, has designed a Greater Paris which extends as far as Le Havre, organized along the length of the Seine. Roland Castro meanwhile imagines a people-friendly capital including the establishment of tourist and cultural sites, such as a Central Park at La Courneuve and an opera house on the Port de Gennevilliers. And British architect Richard Rogers suggests transforming Paris into an environmentally-friendly capital, demolishing the ring-road to replace it with a tramway and transforming 400km2 of roofs into green spaces.

Visit the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine to find out about the projects in more detail! The exhibition will include guides from 2pm to 6pm.
