Soaking up the emerging ideas of cultural autonomy and the renaissance of the Yiddish language, a Jewish avant-garde appears during the Russian Revolution. The illustrated book serves as a means of privileged expression for the artist, and also for the exhibition.
Lissitzky, Chagall, Tchaïkov, Ryback and other lesser known artists express their creativity in the form of children's book or Hebrew editions. This generation breaks away from its religious heritage to explore popular Jewish culture.
These singular trajectories, like that of Lissitzky towards constructivism, translates the ideal transformation of the Messiah into a hope for human redemption.
