Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson
Thanks to his innovative use of text and image, Jim Goldberg has become one of the major photographers of our period… His work was recognized in 2007 by the HCB Award. The HCB Award, presented by the Henri Cartier-Bresson foundation, is a prize to support creativity which aims to allow a photographer to fulfil a project. Almost documentary, Jim Goldberg’s photographs attempt to lend a voice to peoples whose fate has been consigned to silence. Since 2003, the American photographer has been working on the theme of the exodus of refugees, immigrants and populations that are victims of human trafficking in countries ravaged by war and economic turmoil.
In his series "Open see, migrations vers l’Europe" presented at the Henri Cartier-Bresson foundation, Jim Goldberg turns his attention in particular to these migrants’ countries of origin (Ukraine, India, Bangladesh, Mauritania, etc.) and their living conditions at the time they leave. Here he addresses problems related to globalization and tackles questions of racism and cultural persecution.
