Le Plateau
The vast design setting of the Plateau, the Parisian centre for contemporary art, is where video artist Keren Cytter set up her first personal exhibition in France. Something of an event bearing in mind that this artist, of Israeli origin and a resident of Berlin, is considered one of the most hard-hitting artists of her time.
The inspiration behind her work is multidisciplinary (sitcom, cinéma vérité, home movie, art-house cinema...), the result experimenting with the cut up technique, structures in loop and repetition. By disrupting the logical narrative of filmed scenes, Keren Cytter produces a permanent state of tension, a conflict between reality and fiction, aimed at throwing the spectator-visitor off balance, drawing him or her into a labyrinth of violent sensations. In Cytter’s world, love rhymes with passion, hate, crime, conspiracy. Her masters in cinema (Polanski, Pasolini, Cassavetes, Visconti) regularly referred to in her work, are the masters of confused feelings, of everyday dialogues on the verge of collapse. In other words, the journey on which she invites us is far from a peaceful one, but who’s complaining? Take note: some works are on show for the first time in Paris : Répulsion (2006), Der Spiegel (2007), Les Ruissellements du Diable (2008) and Four Seasons (2009).
