Musée d'art et d'histoire du judaïsme
Over five generations, the Camondo family assembled a unique and priceless art collection. This exhibition looks back at the destiny of this extraordinary family which was once so powerful and prestigious, the victim of a hostile and conservative society. Enlightened and cosmopolitan bankers, the Camondos chose modernity and boldness in their philanthropic and artistic undertakings, first in Constantinople then in Paris.
The exhibition focuses particularly on two cousins Isaac and Moïse, who were passionate collectors and generous sponsors. Thanks to loans from collections created from Camondo bequests and gifts, the exhibition includes Jewish religious artefacts from the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire du Judaïsme, 18th century furniture from the Musée du Louvre, Impressionist masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay (Degas, Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, Delacroix, Manet, Sisley and Jongkind), Asian artwork from the Musée Guimet (Japanese prints, Chinese objets d’art), and finally documents and archives from the Musée Nissim de Camondo.
