The political, cultural and sumptuary rivalries started between the numerous kingdoms of Rajasthan allowed art to blossom in a manner that is reminiscent of the creativity of Renaissance Italy.
Discover the first public display of around one hundred of the 18 000 miniatures from the 16th to 19th centuries which are kept in the National Museum of New Delhi.
Portraits of kings, scenes of life at Court, royal hunts, Hindu legends, in particular those linked to the cult of Krishna and his affairs with the cow-herding girls, manuscript covers, playing cards – gaze upon these mini-treasures of the studios of North India.
Marvel at the vibrant detail and the intense colours that dominate these works, which represent the variety of the iconographies and styles.
