A new museum is opening in the Arab World Institute, a lofty space with an exhaustive display of all the riches of Arab countries.
From 21 February To 31 December 2012
Institut du Monde Arabe
It is not a new museum as such, it is rather a museum restored and enriched. It opens on February twenty-first. Over six hundred exhibits are on display on four floors in this new location, including old and new artifacts of cultural, religious, social and anthropological interest. Up until now, the location was dedicated to Islamic art. The focus is on geographical features of the twenty-two Arab countries that co-founded the Arab World Institute with France.
The set designer Roberto Ostinelli has created a guided walkway in this lofty space where exhibits are displayed behind glass. The diversity of the Arab-Muslim culture is organized into five themes: « Les Arabies, berceau d’un patrimoine commun » (Arabia, keeper of a common cultural heritage), « Sacré et figures du divin » (Sacred and divine figures), « Les villes » (Arab cities), « Exprimer la Beauté » (Expressing beauty) and « Un temps de vivre » (A time for living).
