The early eighties saw the emergence of a group of pioneering artists from the biggest American city including Jeff Koons, Robert Gober and the painter Christopher Wool. His artwork focuses on the confrontation between different aspects of mass culture.
His most famous work includes pasted quotes by Mohammed Ali or the film Apocalypse now randomly cut which he then painted black and white. He then worked on applying layers of white paint on motifs he had used previously.
The exhibition, displaying mostly works from 2000, starts on 30 March at the Museum of Modern Art. Over thirty paintings, silkscreen prints and stencils are on display, marking the importance of the development of his deadpan yet greatly poetic artwork.
