Since October 20, the Musée d'Orsay has a new look. The creation of new spaces allows accommodating ever more masterpieces.
From 20 October 2011 To 31 December 2012
Musée d’Orsay
The works lasted two years! But they are over, and the Musée d’Orsay can finally show more of its historical and national collections: an entirely renovated impressionist gallery, a new temporary exhibition hall, the opening of five floors entirely dedicated to the decorative arts but also a larger coffee shop.
Massive changes with a total rethinking of the Amont pavilion. This fairly empty industrial space, which had presented until now architectural models, was considerably expanded: 2,500 square meters of new museum spaces on four floors, with parquet floors and colourful walls.
On the fifth floor, the impressionist gallery, recognized as the most prestigious in the world, is entirely renovated and modernized with a glass roof plus design, where the dialogue is balanced by the natural and artificial light. Quarters adjoining this large gallery are dedicated to the graphic art collections while a temporary exhibition hall was created.
