"Optical illusions" have taken very different forms in the field of art deco. Wallpaper has long been its ideal support, meaning that all materials (wood, iron, fabric, stone, etc.), shapes and desired patterns can be plagiarised. But this art of illusion can also be found on furniture, mirrors, embroidery and clothing, etc.

The museum of Art Deco gives us the chance to take part in a treasure hunt within its galerie d'études, over two floors and twelve rooms. Four hundred objects which are never or very rarely on display tell, over the years and through subjects, the story of technical and artistic inventions which produce the magic of the trompe-l'oeil.
