The festival takes place in several places
An opera troupe from Taiwan is staging the popular and colorful Chinese story Le Roi singe (The Monkey King). The amazing Christophe Rousset directs a great team in a performance of Rameau’s divine lyrical comedy Platée, complete with artful singing frogs.
On a more classical note, the remarkable Emmanuel Krivine conducts two symphonies by Haydn, La Poule (The Chicken) and L’Ours (The Bear). The young troupe Les Dissonances performs Beethoven’s attack on optimistic pantheism La Pastorale (The Pastoral Symphony), after Haydn’s quatuor Le Lever du Soleil (Sunrise).
The cycle L’Animal (The animal) concludes with a treat for young and old, the performance of Saint-Saëns’ bestiary symbol in music Le Carnaval des animaux (The animal carnival).
