The Paris Autumn Festival 2010

Paris Festival d’Automne

A multitude of masters and gifted youngsters from the theatre, dance and music perform in some of the major venues of Paris Ile-de-France.

From 09 September To 31 December 2010

Like a huge and delicious cake, the Festival d’Automne arrives to titillate your taste buds and sharpen your appetite for culture. In its 39th year, a year saddened by the death of its director Alain Crombecque, the celebration of the senses continues with an invigorating and as always high-quality programme, disseminated in the greatest venues in Paris and Ile-de-France.

Take, for example, the theatre: Luc Bondy at the Amandiers in Ionesco, Patrice Chéreau at the Theatre de la Ville in Jon Fosse, Rodrigo Garcia in Gennevilliers with his new play, Peter Brook at the Bouffes du Nord with the Magic Flute according to Mozart...to mention but a few! In dance? Same dilemma. How to choose between Merce Cunningham’s troop and Robyn Orlin at the Theatre de la Ville or Miguel Gutierrez and The Powerful People at the Centre Pompidou who will take us into the world of James Dean. As for music, you will be as drawn as much to the work of German composer Helmut Lachenmann Nun for flute, trombone, orchestra and male voices at the Pleyel on 12th November as to the three solo works for violin, piano and percussion by three contemporary composers (29th November at the Bouffes du Nord).

And putting aside the more famous, this festival is also a unique opportunity to discover the talents of today and of the future in daring new works, such as Notre Terreur (Our Terror), an piece almost completely improvised on stage created by Sylvain Creuzevault and the actors of d’ores et déjà and Factory 2 according to Warhol by Krystian Lupa, one of the spearheads of Polish theatre. In a word, your cultural agenda for after the post-holiday period is now full to the brim!
