Babar turns 80! For the occasion, the Decorative Arts toys gallery unveils many beautiful treasures to children young and old.
From 08 December 2011 To 02 September 2012
Les Arts Décoratifs
At the Decorative Arts in Paris, the toys gallery displays a rich collection of some 12,000 treasures from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day ... To properly celebrate the king of elephants' 80th birthday, it draws on reserves to uncover valuable items.
Dream alongside your family with games and toys bearing the image of Babar, the oldest of which date from the 1930s! Stuffed animals, figurines, 2D and 3D cartoons, games, archive photos show the enthusiasm of children for the happy pachyderm, which continues unabated to this day.
To accompany this presentation, approximately one hundred original drawings, showing the illustrated books portraying the adventures of the pachyderm, were borrowed by the National Library of France, which also hosts a Babar exhibition, as well as by the Morgan Library in New York.
A journey that makes a splendid tribute to the creators of Babar, Jean de Brunhoff and his son Laurent, who later followed in his father's footsteps.
