Opéra Garnier
This exhibition retraces the evolution of the great master. It will be open from December 14th, 2011 to May 13th, 2012 at the Garnier Opera House museum to commemorate one hundred years from the composer's death.
Jules Massenettrulydominated the French lyrical environment. At the end of the 19th century, he was one of the composers who marked the culture of their time. His career included huge successes such as Werther (inspired by The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe), The Cid, Thaïs and Grisélidis, staged back then at the Opera House of Paris. Cinderella, The Juggler of Notre-Dame or Cherubim are also among his famous works.
A real work addict, he composed twenty-five operas, leaving to posterity an essentially lyrical patrimony. He was also a composer of many ballets and symphonic works.
As part of this event, Manon (1884) will be staged at the Bastille Opera House from January 10th, 2012, starring Nathalie Dessay in the leading role.
