If we could all dance and listen in Paris, the rock and electro would be the kings of the night! The city continues to fill up with these very popular music venues. To find out which are the trendiest, this is the way!
Having more neighbours with friendly relations rather than direct competitors, the electro and rock music often coexist. Take for example the case of Machine du Moulin-Rouge, former Loco, a large nightclub, opened to live music, whatever the style. The same joyful mixing can be found at Social Club, which likes to decompartmentalize the genres in its winding and design hall situated in the basement. A little eccentric, but also eclectic, the Glazart, door of Villette, broadcasts a demanding music, underground trend. Near the Saint-Martin canal, Java and Point éphémère host hybrid evenings. In the central highlands of Ménilmontant, the neighbours of Maroquinerie and Bellevilloise have an interest in the two styles, in order to deliver long lasting evenings.
All these places mix music and performances at the same time, offering both concerts, and clubbing evenings. At Oberkamf, Nouveau Casino invites, for several years now, international artistes to fill in its tiny stage. Nice cosy small bars-clubs, the Scène Bastille and the Gibus (at République) present the stars of tomorrow. The same innovative show can be found at Flèche d’or, located in the former Charonne train station or at Mains d’œuvres, an extraordinary venue of Saint-Ouen dedicated to all forms of creative work. A few coffee shops are also trying these inspiring mixtures. The Alimentation générale at Oberkampf is open all evenings, until late at night in the weekend and it allows diversity to express in a friendly atmosphere. Within a few blocks, the International has become in a few years a legendary bar-concert for the lovers of the two genres. Panic Room, near Cirque d'Hiver, offers the same variety of sound.
Other venues have also chosen to specialize. The two main providers of any genre of electro music are Rex Club and Showcase. The first one, located on the Grands Boulevards, is an expert in the matter. The second one, under the buttress of Pont Alexandre-III, is one of the venues for sharp-end DJ-ing. More recent, the Gaîté lyrique is a very original venue. Located in a theatre of the Second Empire, this state-of-the-art room broadcasts modern music. As far as the rock is concerned, small bars that coexist friendly stand out. The Liberté, a family bar located in the 12th district, is certainly the oldest in the matter. Not very far, at Bastille, the Pop In is just like an English pub, from the decor to the pop-rock music and the Disquaires offers a large space to live bands. Finally, the Olympia mythical concert hall shall allow you to assist to concerts of the greatest rock stars. And, every month, the Olympia great orchestra holds a state-of-the-art ball, where rock, disco, soul or ska collide.
