The Koï Nobori festival

Japan

A land of the rising sun has taken the streets between the Opéra-Garnier and the Louvre. Konnichiwa!
Ploum Restaurant

The Rue Saint-Anne, thirty years ago, epitomized the Gay Paris. Now, it has turned into a string of Japanese restaurants serving a very authentic cooking. Forget fake sushis, here the emphasis is on ramen or Gyoza noodles : check Sapporo Ramen, Yasube or Higuma, one of the best Japanese canteens of Paris.

If you enjoyed your meal, why not taking a cooking course? The Workshop Isse, on rue Saint-Augustin, will tell you the secrets of perfect steamed rice. You can buy all the ingredients at the Kyôko grocery: it offers seaweed, wasabi, miso soup, sake, tofu and any kind of Japanese food.

For a cultural insight, check the Junku bookshop on rue des Pyramides: you'll find manga and literature in English and Japanese. A few steps away on boulevard des Capucines, Mitsokoshi is a department store offering a touch of Eastern atmosphere: the offer is occidental, but from price tags to sales assistants or advertising, the rest comes in Japanese.

La Maison de la Culture du Japon

On the Left Bank, the Rue Monsieur-le-Prince is famous for its cheap yakitori eating-houses, but a more refined experience can be found at Tsukizi (2 bis rue des Ciseaux, 75 006)

At springtime, the Espace Hattori (a French-Japanese cultural centre) organizes a festival called Koï Nobori in various French cities : it's dedicated to all the children of the World. And as summer arrives, it's time for the phenomenal Japan Expo. This huge commercial fair offers a dreaming trip across all the sides of Japanese culture, thanks to musical performances, movies, or even sports shows : it celebrates everything for manga to Ikebana.
