Batignolles Saint-Denis

Follow the footsteps and the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh and the Impressionists in this charming medieval village.

Maison-Atelier de Daubigny

An Impressionist Landscape

Small stone houses, ivy covered stone walls, rugged paths leading to the wheat fields and the forests that border the Oise... By escaping industrialisation, Auvers-sur-Oise has remained the same since the 19th-century, when Van Gogh, Cezanne and Pissarro came in search of inspiration.

Arriving by train, The Impressionist Train is direct from Paris on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays, from April to November), total immersion into the Impressionist world is immediate. The underground of the train station has been recovered with a coloured fresco, representing the most famous paintings of the painters from Auvers.

Begin your visit to this « museum village » by discovering the universe of the first impressionist painter: Charles-Francois Daubigny. In the centre of the village, la Maison-Atelier de Daubigny plunges you into the world of the artist, smitten by the village of Auvers. Admire the walls on the inside, decorated by Daubigny and his friends: Corot, Daumier and Odinot... and enjoy the lovely flower garden outside.

A short way down the hill, in a Manor house, the Daubigny Museum presents the work of the landscape painter, as well as the work of his son, Karl.  You can also take a look at the water-colours, drawings and engravings done by his friends: Jean-Francois Millet or Henry-Joseph Harpignies. The tourist office is located on the ground floor and offers guided tours of the village.
