Opéra - grands boulevards

Restaurant Chartier

Always a festive atmosphere on the Grands Boulevards

From the boulevard Montmartre, walk back towards the Grands Boulevards, then turn left onto the rue du faubourg Montmartre. On the left pavement, you will spot the brasserie Chartier, famous for its festive atmosphere. Far from resting on its laurels - the site was classified as an historical monument in 1989 - this address serves a popular cuisine, typically French, and cultivates true Parisian moments, thanks to its hurried waiters in traditional black and white attire who gesticulate furiously throughout the large ornate dining room.

After the brasserie, turn right onto the rue Bergère, which houses the café-resto-concert Au Limonaire, dedicated to showcasing young talent.  Away from the touristic cabarets, this establishment welcomes diverse shows on a small stage and proposes simple dishes at 10 euros. On Sundays, you may choose from the « cabaret-soup », the « small ball », the silent films and singing piano.  This is the heart of the festive feeling that emanates from the Grands Boulevards, with the Grand Rex, the largest cinema in Europe (2650 seats), as the symbol of Parisian high times...

To visit the legendary cinema of the thirties, direction metro BonneNouvelle, a few feet away from the rue Montorgueil. All film buffsshould take a tour through the Etoiles du Rex. Unique in Europe, thisinteractive visit lasts 50 minutes and brings to life the  'backstage'of the cinema, with all your favourite stars. Special effects, clips, sounds and reconstructed sets are used to project the visitor into themagical universe of the 7th art. The Grand Rex is also a famousArt-Deco facade, with a starred spire and baroque decor, making it thetemple of Parisian cinema. After the celebrity visit to the Rex, enjoya more mundane moment at the Delaville Café, a creative space thatcombines, bar, restaurant and lounge... all with wi-fi!

By takingthe boulevard Poissonière towards the metro Grands Boulevard, you comeacross another mythical cinema, that of Max Linder. Once at the metro, take the rue Montmartre (to your left). Follow on to the rue de laCroissant until you spot the Social Club (formerly Tryptique), aquality night-club that plays the most cutting-edge music. If you turnback towards the rue de Montmartre, you will find the rue Feydeau (nearthe rue Saint-Marc) and the Truskel, a high-voltage pub frequented by'groove' fans. Here, the atmosphere is all Indie-pop and rock, withjust a touch of electric. The small room is full of English speakingfans that come to listen to their favourite Dj's (DJ Jarvis Cocker,Steve Mackey from Pulp and the group Autour de Lucie...).
