The Left Bank

Enjoy a dip into the Left Bank sophistication and take a stroll in arty and literary Paris.

Hélène Darroze

The sophisticated district of Sèvres Babylone

You should start your stroll at Sèvres-Babylone. It's the fashionable epicentre of the Left Bank: the very posh Seventh district is a residential and stylish area attracting dear old ladies and young fashionistas alike. The Bon Marché, a department store, waits at its very heart for your crazy shopping spree. Don't miss its designer department if you're into up-and-coming fashion, or indulge into the gourmet selection of its food halls: the Grande Epicerie du Bon Marché. On the other side of the square, the white mouldings of the Lutetia Hotel date back from 1910 - it was the first Art deco hotel in Paris. Its bar is a legend welcoming many secret interviews of the movie industry.

Follow Boulevard Raspail South to rue d'Assas. You'll find the restaurant of famous chef Hélène Darroze. Its Périgord cuisine is celebrated by Michelin, a French equivalent of Fodor's. On the same street, Christian Constant has opened a shop dedicated to the art of chocolate making. Taste one of his bitter chocolate tarts!
You can continue with a visit to rue du Cherche-Midi. Shoe makers and Clothing boutiques offer a top-notch choice for the distinctive trendsetter. Don't miss the Poilâne Bakery: its farmhouse bread is one of the most famous in France.
Turn left on rue du Four. The art gallery EDF Electra is on rue Récamier. It welcomes exhibitions about electricity fairy and its impact on nature, heritage or art. It offers a very good insight into movies and photo making, and also into the latest IT. Follow your stroll on rue des Saints-Pères: fashion boutiques are at the best in what is one of the nicest Parisian showcases of luxury.
