Immediate boarding to Asia! Get lost in the biggest Chinese district of the city, covering an area delimitated by the avenues de Choisy and Ivry, and rue de Tolbiac. It's even supposed to be the largest Asian community in Europe. Enjoy the scenery: Mandarin neon signs light window displays of Peking ducks, and the air is filled with spices and incenses...
Numerous restaurants will welcome you for a lunch. Check the ones on Olympiades piazza, just below the highest towers of the district. For a true eating house, try the Tricotin (15 avenue de Choisy): it's very famous for its dim sum.
Don't miss a visit to the Tang Brothers (Tang Frères) supermarket, an emporium of anything Asian, from rice to peppers, exotic sauces or seasonings. And yes, the smelly fruit looking like an HIV virus is a durian. Now you can say you've seen one!
For some more Oriental shopping, you should try Paris Store (at n°44, avenue de Choisy). It's good for homeware, Golden buddhas and kitsch gizmos.
