Château de Fontainebleau

Château de Fontainebleau

Discover one of the most prestigious properties, home to the French King's, situated at the edge of the forest not far from Paris.

The Fontainebleau Castle is a jewel of French art.

Before entering the castle, take a walk through the White Horse Courtyard (la Cour du Cheval Blanc), finished in the 16th-century and embellished a century later with a magnificent staircase in the shape of a horse-shoe. The staircase leads up to the Royal Apartments, inhabited by the French King's from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. As you walk through the apartments you will discover the Renaissance rooms decorated by Italian artists, notably the magnificent gallery designed by Rosso Fiorentino. In a Renaissance style, the artist combined stucco, wooden mouldings, mythological allegories and paintings in honour of François 1st.

Afterwards a visit to the Pope's apartments and the Saints reliquaries (renovated in July 2007) is in order. The Napoleon Museum proposes a panorama of decorative arts from the Imperial period, while the Chinese Museum boasts a collection of objects from the from the Extreme-Orient, belonging to the Empress Eugenia. Wind up you visit with a walk in the magnificent gardens. The park traces the evolution of French gardens throughout three centuries... A regal tour indeed!
