Conciergerie

With its Holy Chapel, la Conciergerie is the oldest royal palace in Paris. Marie-Antoinette was imprisoned here.

Situated on the Seine, la Conciergerie is both elegant and audacious. Former royal residence, the Palace of the city became the first prison in France, while the sovereigns preferred the Louvre.

During the visit, admire the Gothic rooms that have maintained their majesty throughout time. The edifice is an Medieval work of architectural art. Pause a moment in the extraordinary room called, Gens d’Armes (People of Arms), and look up to the ceiling, where you can see the cross-relief of the magnificently sculpted ceiling.

As for the prison, a reconstruction has been built as a witness to the tumultuous past. You can visit the place where Marie-Antoinette spent her last days. Keep an eye on the calendar, for la Conciergerie regularly organises photographic expositions, many of which reveal the hidden facets of Paris.
