It used to be very quiet, but since the beginning of the 80's and the installation of the infamous Buren columns (decided by François Mitterrand, which provoked a huge controversy), the Palais-Royal Galleries have entered a new life. Nowadays, they're one of the poshest and trendiest fashion spots of the city, coupled with a romantic stroll. You will find Didier Ludot, the biggest (and over expensive) vintage clothing specialist, by Galerie de Montpensier (at 31), the Marc Jacobs flagship store (same gallery, n°34), but also the innovative shoemaker Pierre Hardy (156 galerie de Valois), and the dark fashion staples of Rick Owens (same gallery, n°130-133).
