Jardin des Tuileries - Paris

Jardin des Tuileries

With its two museums and numerous statues, this French-style garden combines art and nature harmoniously.

To explore this garden linking the Louvre and Place de la Concorde, stand with your back to the Louvre pyramid. The eastern entrance to the Tuileries is next to the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, constructed by Napoleon I. Before you stretches a green maze dotted with statues by Aristide Maillol.

A little further away is the first lake, which is oval and around which children sail their little boats. Behind this water feature you will find the most wooded area of the gardens, decorated with contemporary sculptures by Max Ernst, Penone and Lichtenstein.

At the western end, on either side of the octagonal pond, are two identical constructions: the Jeu de Paume - presenting exhibitions of photography and images from the 19th to the 21st century - and the Musée de l'Orangerie - housing Monet's famous Nymphéas as well as works by Renoir, Matisse and others.
