Inaugurated in 2007, this museum dedicated to both contemporary and modern art has lost no time in finding itself a niche by holding original and newsworthy exhibitions: “Soutine”, “Roy Liechtenstein”, “The Dutch Golden Age”... Thanks to its central position, in Paris’ Place de la Madeleine, in the heart of the district known for its luxury boutiques, the three floors covering 2,000 m² are visited by numerous art lovers and tourists.

In January 2011, the Pinacothèque moves to up a level by opening a new hall dedicated to its new permanent collection. A few metres from its current site, at the corner of the Rue de Sèze and the Rue de Vignon, an extra 3,000 m² will be used to present over two hundred paintings from private French and foreign collections on long-term loan to the museum.

These works will not correspond to any distinction of genre, artistic or geographical movement. They will be signed by the greatest Old Masters such as Tintoretto, Rembrandt and Boucher and by major 20th century artists like Picasso, Munch and Modigliani. In return, the Pinacothèque undertakes to restore them if necessary and to protect them from theft. The museum is also working on another project: a five-year collaboration contract with the Saint-Petersburg State Hermitage Museum.
