Three-masters, liners, pirate ships… Discover the fantastic history of the sea aboard one of the most important maritime museums in the world.
Located in the Passy wing of the Palais de Chaillot, opposite the Eiffel tower, the Musée National de la Marine (national maritime museum) assembles objects and works of art of all periods and all styles, from Napoleon’s imperial barge to steamships and the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier.
Although the origins of the collection date back to the 18th century – when an enthusiast offered his most beautiful treasures to Louis XV – today the museum brings together a vast range of model ships, paintings, navigation instruments, figureheads, etc. The age and diversity of pieces on display (in permanent and temporary exhibitions) make it one of the most important maritime museums in the world.
