The most discreet of Belgian designers displays his lines in two immaculate spaces by the Palais Royal for the exclusive fashion addicts.
He’s more than discreet : Martin Margiela never answers interviews nor accepts to be photographed, and even refuses to appear at the end of his shows. It’s nevertheless one of the most influential designers of the last decades, who signed several collections for Hermès between 1997 and 2003.
His label is minimalist : a piece of blank cotton and four stiches. This intellectual fashion is very successful among arty socialites. The clothes are conceived like comments upon the fashion history, combined with a twisted use of traditional fabrics, and a commun play with linings as an outside material. They succeed in being altogether recognizable and easy to wear.
The shops, very neutral, are an invitation to a meditative visit in the heart of Palais-Royal. Somewhere at the border between art and fashion.
