This exhibition presents the work of the photographer through numerous unpublished documents and works.
As one of the greatest European photographers of his generation, Erwin Blumenfeld (1897–1962) has marked modern photography.
In this exhibition – the first in France to be exclusively devoted to his work – visitors can discover about 200 works and documents collected since the late 1910s until the 1960s. The opportunity to explore the various facets of this American artist of German origin through a scenography divided into eight sections: drawings, collages and montages, self-portraits, portraits, nudes, The Great Dictator, architecture, fashion.
We can discover drawings that have never been shown, youth photomontages, experimental black and white photographs as well as fashion and advertising photographs that he then made in color, small format images taken in Berlin, Paris or New York and projected in the form of slides. There is enough to reveal the many aspects and stages of Blumenfeld's career and the wide range of his artistic activities.
