Performances and exhibitions are held throughout the year to honor the gardener of Louis XIV, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of his birth.
To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of André Le Nôtre, designer of the gardens of Versailles and close friend of Louis XIV, The Palace of Versailles is organizing a series of events that will pay tribute to the talent of the landscaper who was also an architect, engineer and hydraulic.
This is an opportunity to rediscover the art of Le Nôtre through the tree sculptures by Giuseppe Penone, but also through the putting forward of the grove of the labyrinth, and the exhibitions Fleurs des collections royales and André Le Nôtre perspective. From 1613 to 2013.
Walkers will also discover the restoration of the watershed and of the beds of Latona and also of the children’s golden basin as well as the new conversion of the Water theatre. Versailles gardeners will seek also to give a new look to the royal aisles of Mortemets.
Shows (concerts, ballets, fireworks, water games) will also be offered, as well as a Versailles prize "Reading in the Garden," which will reward the best works on the theme of the garden. Enough to crown this year Le Nôtre in style!
