Le Jeu de Paume
The impressive Jeu de Paume National Gallery is located between Place de la Concorde and The Tuileries Garden, where the contemporary image reigns.

It is a magnificent building 4.50 metres high and 80 metres long, left to us by Napoleon III since the mid 19th century. Built on the same plans as the Orangerie, in a Second Empire style, the Jeu de Paume was first designed to host the antique tennis courts.
Having hosted countless impressive paintings after World War II, this national gallery took a 180 degrees turn in the 90s, when it became exclusively dedicated to contemporary art. The gallery thus offers an explosive mix between the historical character of its architecture and the modernity of the exhibited works, which are nowadays exclusively focused on photography and all the other means of imagistic expression.
Decidedly modern, offering nine halls on three levels, the Jeu de Paume gallery is a unique place, a successful mix of soft tradition and bright modernity. Lose yourself on its long hallways and admire the wonderful view of Paris from its huge picture windows.
