om 2nd March this old Parisian temple to operetta will become the crossroads and trampoline for digital cultures.
In the XVIIIth century, it was the place where fairs were held. It was destroyed, then rebuilt to become the théâtre des Grands-Danseurs du Roi (The theatre of the King’s Dancers). It went up in flames in 1835. It was rebuilt in a new location where it became the main venue for Parisian lovers of operettas. It was managed by Offenbach for a while.
It was also a circus school, a fairground, and it was abandoned for twenty years. La Gaîté Lyrique was revived in 2011 as a hyperactive cultural centre, it is full of ultra-contemporary items.
The building is listed by the French Historic Monument Society. It preserves its original changing rooms, foyer and façade. It offers a lively programme bringing together live and plastic arts, web culture, cinema and design.
Enjoy a drink in the historical foyer, relax in the video games arcade, go and see a performance, an exhibition or a concert to wander in this five storey building where different styles including art and technology happily flourish together.
